CVN Monthly Update, Aug. 2009: A New Look

Below is our most recent email--please let us know any feedback. Also, if you aren't getting these in your inbox, sign up on the County site (be sure to check the box that you're interested in CVN and in receiving emails): http://tinyurl.com/CVN-register
Dear CVN volunteer,

Before letting you know about some of what's coming up in the way of volunteering for August, we wanted to be sure to report back on Community Volunteer Network's new look...
We unveiled the above during our Five-year Anniversary/Summer Celebration a few weeks ago (lots of good pictures from that here)--we're pretty excited about it. If you think it looks a bit like the past logo though, we'd forgive you, because it's actually just a change in colors. We went with it because the old logo got the most votes, by quite a bit, in our logo contest last month. Many thanks to everyone who submitted logo ideas though (we'll keep the slideshow up here for posterity), and to the over 125 people who voted as a part of the logo contest! Look for t-shirts soon...

Thanks also to everyone that came out last month to volunteer events with Cherrydale Health and Rehabilitation, Arlington-Alexandria Coalition for the Homeless, and Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment--know you're helping make an impact in some important areas in the County (and send any volunteering pics to me by email).

As we move into this last month of the Summer here though, we've got a few volunteer opportunities coming up, along with our monthly happy hour next week:

The CVN Logo Contest

Below is our most recent email--please let us know any feedback. Also, if you aren't getting these in your inbox, sign up on the County site (be sure to check the box that you're interested in CVN and in receiving emails): http://tinyurl.com/CVN-register
Dear CVN volunteer,

We are pleased to announce that the CVN logo contest is now under way. Thank you to everyone for all your great submissions.

Here are a few guidelines to keep in mind before you vote:

1. Vote only for your top three logos.
2. Keep the voting clean and honest by only voting once and picking what you really like.
3. Know that we may have to alter the final logo around a bit in terms of size and color to fit our purposes, so make your decision on the overall look and feel of the logo.
4. Go vote! Here's the link: http://tinyurl.com/m6hq7o
5. Lastly, the vote closes July 1st, so get to it.

Remember, we'll be unveiling the winner at CVN's Annual Summer Celebration / Five-Year Anniversary on July 20th--RSVP here on Facebook for that, or RSVP to Meredith Clayton, our Social Chair, if you don't use Facebook.

Look for another update next week with upcoming volunteer events and other happenings around town.

Have a good weekend,

Jon Bunger
Membership Chair, Community Volunteer Network

PS - We hope to see you out for our community education event, DiscussArlington--it's a discussion with Fresh AIRE about local issues with the environment and what individuals can do to be conscious of those issues in their own life. It's in two days at the Arlington Central Library. RSVP here on Facebook, or RSVP by email to Tim Riley, our Community Education Chair.

CVN Monthly Update, June 2009: Volunteer Trainings and Logo Contests

Below is our most recent email--please let us know any feedback. Also, if you aren't getting these in your inbox, sign up on the County site (be sure to check the box that you're interested in CVN and in receiving emails): http://tinyurl.com/CVN-register

Dear CVN volunteer,

We're pretty excited for the line-up of CVN events for June, from CVN's first community education event, to our Volunteer Leadership Training, and an innovative event with the elderly, among others. We hope you'll see common threads throughout these events that represent the core of what CVN is and can be: a community that engages 20 and 30 somethings in not just volunteering, but also in leading volunteer activities and in the all-important act of understanding the local issues behind that volunteering.

As a quick recap, in May, we were glad to have some folks out for the Taste of Arlington--check out some pictures here on our new Flickr account (more details on Flickr below). If you weren't able to join us for the County's May reception honoring Arlington volunteers, it was a helpful reminder of the breadth of volunteering going on in the County (take a look at some of the pictures from that here).

As a last update, in terms of CVN's logo contest, we've got 18 possibilities from 5 people, with some good options; we'll be accepting logos until around mid-June though, so you've still got some time if you want to throw yours in the mix!  Email CVN Membership Chair Jon Bunger with any ideas or questions.

Now, the June line-up...
