You're Invited to CVN's All-Star Summer Celebration

By now, you've probably heard about our upcoming Summer Celebration and you may be wondering what it's all about. Well, it's a little like our regular monthly meet-up because we'll be getting together at a local restaurant to get to know each other, sign up for events, and learn more about CVN.   However, the Summer Celebration is actually so much more than our regular gatherings because it celebrates the many accomplishments of our volunteers over the past year -- and that's where you come in! Whether you volunteer every weekend, once in a while, or are just starting out, we hope you'll join in the fun.

In case you're not yet convinced, here are the top five reasons to attend:

5. There will be plenty of free food (including vegetarian options) and sodas.

4. There will be door prizes, including gift certificates to local restaurants!

3. You can hear from an awesome local leader, Courtney Reeve, who is Executive Director of the Greenbrier Learning Center in Arlington. She'll share how the work of volunteers like us makes a huge impact in the community.

2. We'll present awards to our All-Star MVPs who have made extraordinary contributions to CVN over the past year.

1. We'd be nothing without our volunteers and this event is for YOU! Please let us thank you in person.

Now that you're convinced, here are the details:

Below is our most recent email--please let us know any feedback. Also, if you aren't getting these in your inbox, sign up on the County site (be sure to check the box that you're interested in CVN and in receiving emails): http://tinyurl.com/CVN-register
Dear CVN volunteer,
We've been in touch several times over the last month, so we'll get right to the point here with some upcoming opportunities for July:

CVN EVENTS:
  • TimeSlips at Cherrydale - Sat, July 11th, 2-3 pm, Fri., July 24, 10:30-11:30 am, and on Sat, Aug 8, 2-3 pm:"TimeSlips" is a creative storytelling method that helps people with dementia connect with others. These volunteer events will recur at least a few more times.  Learn more and RSVP here.
  • Round 2 at AACH - Wed., July 15, 6:30-8 pm: As a follow up to our spring visit to the Arlington Alexandria Coalition for the Homeless we will clean out and organize their storage sheds. Volunteers will go through AACH's two storage sheds weeding out broken or unusable goods and reorganizing all of the items that have accumulated since the beginning of the year.  Learn more and RSVP here.
  • CVN's Five-Year Anniversary / Summer Celebration - Mon., July 20, 6:30-9:30 pm: We will be hosting our biggest event of the year at the Arlington Arts Center and we hope you will join us.  Scott Thuman of ABC/WJLA news will be our MC, Robert Egger, Founder and President of DC Central Kitchen will be speaking, and Arlington County Board Member and CVN Founder Walter Tejada will be recognizing five years of CVN.  The event is free, but we are asking instead for a food donation for the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC).  Also, Ireland's Four Courts is supplying a cash bar, with part of the proceeds going to AFAC. Please RSVP for the event on Facebook here, or via the Volunteer Arlington website here.
  • ACE Pickup and Drinkup - Sat., July 25, 3-5 pm: CVN is partnering with Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment (ACE) for a Pickup and Drinkup. We'll start by cleaning up Four Mile Run and then travel a short distance to Shirlington around 5:00 pm to cool off with a few drinks. Learn more and RSVP here.

DiscussArlington & Summer Celebration

Below is our most recent email--please let us know any feedback. Also, if you aren't getting these in your inbox, sign up on the County site (be sure to check the box that you're interested in CVN and in receiving emails): http://tinyurl.com/CVN-register
Dear CVN volunteer,

Hello, and happy end to the week!

We usually just send out one main email per month with coming events, but we wanted to shoot out another quick note here because we're pretty excited about
these upcoming events:
  • DiscussArlington: Environment - Sun., June 28, 3-5 pm: What's the state of the environment in Arlington? What might we do to conserve more in our own lives? As we noted in our last email, we're getting together to discuss exactly those questions for DiscussArlington, a CVN community education event with Fresh AIRE, Arlington's clean air initiative--we think it'll be great for a lazy Sunday afternoon, especially with a little coffee on the side. No speakers lecturing from a podium though, we're aiming for a good roundtable discussion. Find out more and RSVP here on Facebook, or email Tim Riley, our Community Education Chair, for more info at CVN.education@gmail.com.
  • CVN's Five-Year Anniversary / Summer Celebration - Mon., July 20, 6:30-9:30 pm: So we're excited to be celebrating five years for CVN as a part of our annual Summer Celebration, and hope you'll come out and raise a glass with us. We'll hear from speaker Robert Egger, founder and President of DC Central Kitchen, along with one of CVN's founders, County Board Member Walter Tejada. You can find us that night at the Arlington Arts Center, near the VA Square Metro. RSVP here if interested, or email Meredith Clayton, our Social Chair, at CVN.social@gmail.com for more info.
Lastly, we wanted to try to use the power of our volunteers and any other interested readers to help spread the word about these events and CVN in general with the attached flier--just print it out and post it in your apartment complex, gym, any local restaurants or bars, or wherever else you think it might catch someone's eye. If you like what CVN's about, we hope you might own some of what it might be by helping out with this and other opportunities.

Thanks, and enjoy the weekend!
