CVN Chair's Report CVN was all around Arlington last month sorting food with AFAC in Shirlington, planting at the ATS Garden in the Bluemont Neighborhood, pulling invasive plants at Gulf Branch, and enjoying Taste of Arlington in Ballston. We even headed to Alexandria to help with the inaugural concert of the Arlington Symphony Orchestra (in which one of volunteers performs!). The CVN kickball team reached the mid-point of the season and even though the team has yet to win a game, their spirits are still strong! We have great events on the calendar for June and hope to see at one. Meredith Find us on the web Upcoming CVN Events CVN Kicks Grass Kickball Game – Thursday, June 2nd, 7:45 – 8:15pm | Come out and cheer on CVN's kickball team, CVN Kicks Grass!  Games are played on the fields at Wakefield High School and the group heads out to Rhodeside Grill in Courthouse afterward.  Supporters are always welcome to cheer on the team - or to join us for the post-game fun! ATS Schoolyard Garden – Sunday, June 12th , 2:00 – 4:00pm | Lend a hand with the monthly crew of CVN volunteers helping out in the garden at Arlington Traditional School. Newcomers and regulars are welcome to join us for landscaping projects large and small. This crew is continuing to transform the ATS garden into a fun space for kids to learn outdoors.  RSVP here. June Monthly Meetup @ Samuel Beckett's (Shirlington) – Tuesday, June 14th 7:00 – 9:00pm | Join CVN at Samuel Beckett's to learn more about our upcoming events and meet fellow volunteers. Relay for Life – Saturday, June 18th , 1:00 – 3:00pm and 3:00 – 6:00pm | Relay For Life is a team event to fight cancer and represents the signature fundraiser of the American Cancer Society. Relay For Life is present in cities and communities around the country and across the globe. Relay For Life is typically an overnight event where teams of 8-15 people join together and take turns running or walking around a track. It represents a celebration of life and a chance to remember those we have lost to cancer. CVN will be helping out on June 18th with event set-up and registration. The first shift from 1-3 pm will help with event setup and the second shift from 3-6 pm will help with registration. RSVP here. Tim Harmon 5k Race – Saturday, June 25th, 6:00 – 9;00am | Here is an opportunity to have fun while helping to raise awareness of Hepatitis C and Substance Abuse by volunteering to help at the 12th Annual Tim Harmon Race hosted by the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board. It will be held at the Fairfax Government Center on Saturday morning, June 25th. Volunteer duties include helping with registration, set-up, and race monitoring.
