Time Well Spent

Are there times when you see a volunteering event and think "Wow, that looks fantastic, if only I had the time to do it"?  Balancing work, and life in today's modern world certainly seems to leave precious little time for anything else, so it may feel daunting to try and fit in volunteering time.

Fortunately, the biggest reason that people feel so busy these days is that distractions have become so ubiquitous.  It's almost impossible to avoid TV, the internet, and games and it's so easy to be tempted by them.  You've been tempted enough to be reading this blog post right now, but don't worry I promise to keep it short.

The average American spends almost 3 hours a day watching TV, if you're anywhere close to average and you can cut out just 1 hour a day then suddenly you have 7 extra hours each week.  Thats tons of time to volunteer.  And when you think about it, the time you spend volunteering is really much more meaningful than the time you spend watching TV.  When you grow older you're not going to look back and cherish the memories of watching TV on your couch, but you'll be able to look back with pride on the time you were able to spend helping others.

So, next time you think you're too busy to volunteer, give a thought to how your time is being spent and see if you can't find some hidden freedom in your schedule.  I promise, it'll be time well spent.
