Making a Habit of Volunteering

Everyone has habits.  Some people buy a coffee before work every day.  Others go to the gym twice a week.  A whole lot of us spend an hour or two in front of the TV each night.  When you look at your own life what sort of habits do you find?  If volunteering isn't in the list, maybe it is time to try and make a habit of it.

Getting into the habit of doing something makes doing it easier. You don't have to think about it so much, it just happens naturally because you are in the habit of doing it.  Volunteering can be tough to get into sometimes, but if you make a habit of getting out and helping others, even if it's only once a month, it can help make it easier.

At CVN we have a number of recurring volunteering events, things which happen on a regular basis with the same group of people each time more or less.  If you really want to form a habit, maybe one of these events would be a good way to start?  If you want a little more variety you could just make your own habit of signing up for 1 volunteering event every month.  If you do this you'll be amazed at how much good you've done by the end of the year.  Check out the calendar to see what evens we have coming up, and feel free to shoot me an e-mail if you need some help figuring out how to help.  You may have some habits that you regret, but if you add volunteering to the list I guarantee you'll never find yourself moaning "Oh I wish I could kick this terrible volunteering habit."
