Community Volunteer Network Update

CVN Chair's Report
Spring has sprung and CVN is in full swing for the month of May! We have some great outdoor volunteer events to take advantage of the warm weather. We also have some great social events coming up in addition to our monthly meetup. Around Arlington farmer's markets are gearing up again and outdoor movies are showing in Rosslyn. Join CVN as we shake off winter, get up, get out and get involved in Arlington.
We hope to see you at an event soon,
 Meredith

  • CVN Kicks Grass Kickball Game - Thursday, May 5th, 8:30 – 9:15pm  | Come out and cheer on CVN's kickball team, CVN Kicks Grass! Games are played on the fields at Wakefield High School and the group heads out to Rhodeside Grill in Courthouse afterward. Supporters are always welcome to cheer on the team - or to join us for the post-game fun! More information on our kickball league and our full schedule are available here.
  • Plants and Pitchers - Saturday, May 7th 2:30 – 4:30pm  | The Community Volunteer Network will be removing invasive plants from our adopted area at the Gulf Branch Nature Center. Our efforts will aid in the steady recovery and return of healthy trees, wildflowers, and wildlife to the area. Afterward we will head to a restaurant for a happy hour. Find out more, RSVP: Gulf Branch Sign-up

  • AFAC Letter Carrier's Drive - Sunday, May 15th 2:30 – 5:30pm  | The Arlington Food Assistance Center is gearing up for one of its larger events -- a food drive led by the National Association of Letter Carriers. CVN plans to help by bringing volunteers to sort collected food from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm on Sunday, May 15. This is a great way to meet and get involved with CVN's recurring AFAC volunteers, who generally volunteer at the food center about every 5 weeks. After we finish our shift, we'll head to Shirlington Village so those who want to can get drinks and food and hang out. Find out more, RSVP: AFAC Sign-up
  • Symphony Orchestra of Arlington - Friday, May 20th 6:00 – 9:00pm  | Enjoy great music and help a local group, the Symphony Orchestra of Arlington, with their first concert on Friday, May 20th. SOA will perform music from Mozart and Tchaikovsky and will be joined by the Washington Men's Camerata. Volunteers will help take tickets and serve as ushers for the event. Best of all, you can watch the performance for free! Find out more, RSVP: SOA Sign-up
  • Taste of Arlington - Saturday, May 22nd 12:00 – 5:00pm  | Come enjoy Taste of Arlington with fellow CVNers. Taste of Arlington features over 40 restaurants, live entertainment and children activities. Find out more, RSVP Taste of Arlington
We Want You!
Have an idea for a new community service experience? Want to practice your leadership skills? Try leading a volunteer event with CVN! Whether you're a total newbie or a master at facilitating events, you're invited to develop or expand on your abilities by serving as a volunteer leader. There are a whole range of opportunities available—from simply acting as the point of contact for registration and sign-in for your favorite CVN event, to setting up a brand new event based on your interests in the community. Leading an event is not only a great way to give back, but also a chance to expand your network and build your professional skill set. We're currently looking for people to lead one-time and recurring events this summer and into the fall. No experience is necessary and training is provided. Contact Brynn Slate at cvn.r.volunteering@gmail.com with your ideas and questions.
