Volunteer Opportunity with Therapeutic Recreation

Arlington County's Therapeutic Recreation Office has reached out to CVN for help recruiting volunteers for an after-school program for teenagers with disabilities. We've worked with Therapeutic Recreation in the past and it has always been a rewarding and fun experience. Information on the program and how to get involved are provided below. Please note that volunteers would not be volunteering directly with CVN for this program.

--

The Arlington County Therapeutic Recreation Office is looking for volunteers on Mondays for an after-school program. Volunteers must be interested in or have experience working with teenagers with disabilities. Only 8 students in the class provide for proper success and supervision.
  • Time: Class is 4-5pm (asking for a 3:45-5:15pm shift)
  • Dates: Mondays, Jan 30-Mar 26 ( no class Feb 20)
  • Location: Stratford School, 4102 Vacation Lane Arlington ( first floor of HB Woodlawn School)
This class is specifically designed for individuals with disabilities ages 12-22. Twist and turn and bounce around to great modern day rhythms in this fun cardio class that caters to teens with disabilities. Students will increase stamina, condition the heart, and build muscle tone using their own body weight all while learning cool routines. A lead fitness instructor will facilitate the program and an assistant staff member will take care of restroom breaks or any supervision needs. Volunteers would work 1:1 with an assigned student to role model moves and help with motivation and attention to task.
