Message From the Chair
The weather worked against us in August but CVN had a successful September. Now fall is here and the weather is getting cooler, this the best time of year to spend time outside. In addition to our 2 recurring gardening events, we have a number of outdoor events coming up. One new event is a native seed collection with ACE. The popular vegetable gleaning with AFAC will be on Saturday, October 20th.
For those of you who are new to CVN, our monthly meet-ups are good ways to learn more about CVN. I hope to see some of you on Tuesday, October 9 at Chevy's!

Upcoming CVN Events
- Fall Garden Day at Claremont Immersion Elementary School - Saturday, September 29th, 10:00am-12:30pm, 12:30pm-3:00pm | Claremont immersion Elementary School is excited to have CVN volunteers help out during its Fall Garden Day. There will be two 2.5 hour shifts for volunteers to participate in. CVN volunteers can expect to do a wide variety of things from building with power tools, to weeding, to helping plant to helping with garden architecture design. Register here
- Growing Native Seed Collection with ACE - Saturday, October 6th, 10:00am-noon | Join Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment (ACE) for a pleasant walk through the woods as we collect tree seeds to be grown for restoration projects throughout the state. We will be joined by Arlington County forester Vincent Verweij. We will meet at the amphitheater at Lubber Run Park, just below the parking lot. Register here.
- October Meet-up @ Chevy's Fresh Mex (Pentagon City) – Tuesday, October 9th, 7:00-9:00pm | Join CVN at Chevy's to learn more about our upcoming events and meet fellow volunteers. Register here.
- ATS Schoolyard Garden – Sunday, October 14th, 2:00pm-4:00pm | Join us at Arlington Traditional School. We'll be continuing work to transform this schoolyard habitat into a fun space for kids to learn outdoors. Newcomers and regulars are welcome to join us. Register here.
- Vegetable Gardening with AFAC - Saturday, October 20, 8:30am - 12:30pm | Join other volunteers to help farmers harvest crops for the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC). We'll be traveling to a farm (location TBD) to glean vegetables from the fields and provide fresh produce to AFAC's clients. Bring water to drink, sunhats, gloves and wear sturdy shoes or boots. - Tuckahoe Elementary Garden Day - Sunday, October 21st, 02:00 pm - 04:00 pm | Come help with the upkeep of the Tuckahoe Elementary garden! There will be weeding, basic maintenance, composting and other tasks. No experience required. Register here.
